La Jagua, located in the municipality of La Jagua of Ibirico, in the department of Cesar, is an open-pit coal mine consisting of five mining permits held by three companies: Carbones de La Jagua S.A., Consorcio Minero Unido S.A. and Carbones El Tesoro S.A.

Once Glencore had purchased all of these operations, it integrated them into one, with the approval of the competent authorities.

Besides producing low – sulfur thermal coal of s high energy contents, at the La Jagua mine there is also extraction of high – volatility metallurgic coal. The crushed coal is transported on trucks to the coal handling facilities at the Calenturitas mine, where it is loaded onto railcars and transported to the port of Ciénaga, Magdalena.

We produced 7 million tons during 2015 at this mine.
